CARMIEL INTERNATIONAL DANCE FESTIVAL

by Chiquita Levov

"......Another exciting moment of the Festival was the Tribute to the
Queen of Israeli Flamenco, Silvia Duran, for the 30 years of fruitful
activity.

The Festival put public transport at the disposition of the public from
far, who wished to be present at this event and the theatre was packed
with admirers, dancers, students and important personalities on stage
who recalled their experiences with Silvia.

La Duran comes from South Africa and danced for many years in
Spain.  The choreographer, Michal Natan, who was formed in Duran's
studio, told us how at the age of 7 she lived with her parents on a
mission in South Africa.  In the building where she studied dance, there
happened to be a Spanish dance studio and Michal always looked in
to watch without knowing that years later she would study with Silvia
Duran, who actually began her studies in that same Johannesburg
studio, and that she would become one of Duran's most successful
students in Israel.

David Broza told how he met Silvia at the age of 16 in Spain and how
she was in contact with the famous "Manzanita" who she took on tour
with her company....."
