TRIBUTE TO SILVIA DURAN: 30 YEARS OF FLAMENCO

CARMIEL INTERNATIONAL DANCE FESTIVAL

One of the most exciting moments of the Festival will take place on August 1st
with the evening TRIBUTE TO SILVIA DURAN the High Priestess of Israeli
Flamenco", Silvia Duran, for the thirty years of her continuous work, through
which she put flamenco on the local stages and formed the best dancers in the
country.

Dancer and choreographer, she came to Israel from South Africa, as a Zionist,
after having dedicated herself artistically to flamenco in Spain, bringing with her all
her knowledge and being the first to bring this style to the Holy Land.  And it is
important to emphasize that we are not talking about "artificial" flamenco but the
"real thing" (authentic), that which demands great knowldge of the Spanish culture
real dedication and great talent.  It is now a number of years that she fully dedicates
herself to teaching, giving classes in her studio school, a place where a great number
of Israeli Flamenco dancers that now have international status were formed and ,
without a doubt, were nourished by her wide knowledge:  Neta Sheyzaf, Michal
Natan, Ornili Azulai et.
 
In this Tribute we can count of the appearance of the singer David Broza, who will
offer a number of his songs, and another great guitarist Baldi Olier, who will
remember excellent moments lived with Silvia, his music being closer to the flamenco
than any other Israeli music.

During the past few years Silvia has created a distinguished group of dancers that
continually perform together and as soloists.  The performances created by her have
become famous and the Company is invited to perform in Festivals and different
events all over the country.

Another garland in her career is the fact that she was invited by the director of the
TEATRO REAL Madrid to Spain to perform in "Carmen" and create the choreography
for the production in Los Angeles and Israel.  She was responsible for the dancers of
her Company who formed the ensemble.
